Jonathan Phillips ("Jonny" around here) is a long-distance track runner, elite marathoner, and Heartbreaker. His running career got its start at Cornell, where he specialized in the 5k and 10k. He continued his NCAA career in graduate school at the University of Michigan. Soon afterward, he ran his debut marathon in 2:25, and qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 2017 Chicago Marathon running 2:18:19 and placing as the 10th American, 21st overall.


In addition to coaching with Heartbreak, he coaches Princeton's Club Running team remotely from Boston. His exposure to several  of the nation's leading Division 1 track coaches and deep knowledge of training theory, as well as his own experiments self-coaching, have led to a balanced and strategic coaching philosophy.
